How to use つかれる

One sentence for each tense, the way people say it.

  1. Present and future

    まいにち でんしゃ が こんで いて、 つかれます。

    The trains are crowded every day and it wears me out.

  2. Past

    きょう は かいぎ が ながくて、 つかれました。

    The meeting was long today and I got tired.

  3. Te-form

    さいきん、 ベン さん は すこし つかれて います ね。

    Ben, you've seemed a little tired lately.

  4. Potential

    つかれて、 もう いっぽ も あるけません。

    I'm so tired I can't walk another step.

  5. Want to

    つかれた から、 きょう は はやく ねたい。

    I'm tired, so I want to go to bed early today.

  6. Volitional

    つかれた ね。 ちょっと やすもう か。

    We're tired, aren't we. Shall we take a break?

  7. Conditional

    つかれたら、 そこ の ベンチ に すわりましょう。

    If you get tired, let's sit on that bench.

Good to know

  • つかれました, the past, is how you say "I'm tired": the tiredness has already come.
  • Getting tired is not something you decide, so the potential, want, volitional and imperative sentences show つかれる beside another verb.
