  1. Present and future

    かえり に スーパー に よります。

    On the way home I'll drop by the supermarket.

  2. Past

    しゃしん の ため に、 みんな まんなか に よった。

    Everyone moved in to the middle for the photo.

  3. Te-form

    もう すこし こっち に よって。

    Come a bit closer this way.

  4. Potential

    ひと が いっぱい で、 これ いじょう よれません。

    It's packed, I can't move up any further.

  5. Want to

    かえり に ほんや に よりたい。

    On the way back I want to drop into the bookshop.

  6. Volitional

    さむい から、 もっと よろう。

    It's cold, let's huddle closer.

  7. Conditional

    みんな が すこし よれば、 もう ひとり すわれます。

    If everyone moves up a little, one more can sit.

  8. Commands and requests

    あぶない から、 こっち に よりなさい。

    It's dangerous, come over this way.

  9. Passive and causative

Good to know

  • よる is also to drop in on the way: コンビニ に よる.
  • よって ください is "please move up", to make room.
