  2. Simple past

    Er versprach, früher nach Hause zu kommen.

    He promised to come home earlier.

  3. Perfect

    Du hast es mir versprochen!

    You promised me!

  4. Future

    Ich werde nichts versprechen, was ich nicht halten kann.

    I won't promise anything I can't keep.

  5. Conditional

    Ich würde das an deiner Stelle nicht versprechen.

    In your place I wouldn't promise that.

  6. Imperative

    Versprich mir, dass du anrufst!

    Promise me you'll call!

Good to know

  • The person is in the dative: Ich verspreche dir, ich komme.
  • Versprochen! on its own means "promise!".
