How to use でる

One sentence for each tense, the way people say it.

  1. Present and future

    まいあさ しちじ はん に いえ を でます。

    I leave home at half past seven every morning.

  2. Past

    ひこうき は じかん どおり に でました。

    The plane left on time.

  3. Te-form

    すみません、 でんわ に でて くれます か。

    Sorry, could you answer the phone?

  4. Potential

    きょう は かいぎ が あって、 でられません。

    I have a meeting today, so I can't make it.

  5. Want to

    この へや から はやく でたい です。

    I want to get out of this room soon.

  6. Volitional

    じゅうたい だ から、 はやめ に でよう。

    There's traffic, so let's leave early.

  7. Conditional

    いま でれば、 まにあいます よ。

    If we leave now, we'll make it.

  8. Commands and requests

    あぶない から、 そと に でないで。

    It's dangerous, don't go outside.

  9. Passive and causative

    むすめ を ダンス の たいかい に でさせました。

    I let my daughter take part in the dance contest.

Good to know

  • What you leave takes を: いえ を でます. でる is also to come out or appear: つき が でました.
  • でんわ に でる is to answer the phone.
