How to use いく

One sentence for each tense, the way people say it.

  1. Present and future

    にちようび は どこ へ も いきません。

    On Sundays I don't go anywhere.

  2. Past

    せんしゅう、 かぞく で おんせん に いきました。

    Last week we went to a hot spring as a family.

  3. Te-form

    さき に いって いて ください。

    Please go on ahead and wait there.

  4. Potential

    あした は ざんねん です が、 いけません。

    I'm sorry, but I can't go tomorrow.

  5. Want to

    なつやすみ に ほっかいどう へ いきたい です。

    I want to go to Hokkaido in the summer holidays.

  6. Volitional

    こんど いっしょ に うみ へ いこう。

    Let's go to the sea together sometime.

  7. Conditional

    この みち を まっすぐ いけば、 えき です。

    If you go straight down this street, you reach the station.

  8. Commands and requests

    はやく がっこう へ いきなさい。

Good to know

  • The て-form is いって, not いいて.
  • いって きます is what you say when you leave home; the answer is いって らっしゃい.
