How to use haber

    Hay leche, pero no he comprado pan.

    There's milk, but I haven't bought bread.

  2. Past

    Hubo un temblor anoche, ¿lo sentiste?

    There was an earthquake last night, did you feel it?

  3. Imperfect

    Había mucha gente en el mercado hoy.

    There were a lot of people at the market today.

  4. Future

    Habrá fiesta en la plaza el sábado.

    There'll be a party in the square on Saturday.

  5. Conditional

    Habría menos tráfico si saliéramos más temprano.

    There'd be less traffic if we left earlier.

  6. Present subjunctive

    Espero que haya lugar en el restaurante.

    I hope there's room at the restaurant.

  7. Past subjunctive

    Si hubiera más tiempo, visitaríamos el museo.

Good to know

  • For "there is" and "there are", the present is "hay", for one thing or many: "hay un banco", "hay dos bancos".
  • As the helper verb it goes with the participle: "he comido", "has llegado".
