Ben lands in Tokyo with a backpack, a month, and not a word of Japanese. From a small family inn in the old part of the city to Kyoto and the sea at Kamakura, each lesson is a scene from his trip: the people he meets, and what he has to say to them.

レッスン1〜10Ben looks for a small family inn in Tokyo, a woman in the street shows him the way, and Kenta comes to the desk.
At the desk of the inn, Kenta asks Ben where he's from and whether he speaks Japanese, and one of his questions is much too fast for Ben.
Kenta shows Ben his room at the inn, a Japanese room with straw mats and a futon.

Ben buys a rice ball and a bottle of water at the convenience store on the corner, meets the woman from the street in the queue, and needs Yui's help to open his rice ball.

Ben comes home hot and hungry, and Yui takes him for ramen at Mr. Mori's little shop on the corner.
Ben sets out alone for the station, and gets lost in the little streets of Asakusa.
It's raining, and Ben takes his phone to a little shop near the station, to get a SIM card.
Yui calls, as she promised, and she and Ben walk by the river at night.

On the bullet train to Kyoto, Ben and Yui talk about their jobs, where they live, and where Ben will sleep tonight.
In Kyoto, Ben finds a room at an old wooden guesthouse by the river, run by Mrs. Ishida, and that evening he tells Yui all about it on the phone.
Yui has the afternoon off and takes Ben to Nishiki market, a long covered street of food stalls where everyone wants him to taste something.
Yui takes Ben home to Sunday lunch with her parents and her little brother, and Ben brings the pickles from the market.
Over tea and strawberries, Yui's family asks Ben about his own family, and her little brother Sota, who hasn't said a word all day, asks the questions you're not supposed to ask.
The morning after lunch at Yui's parents', Ben wakes up with a bad cold.
It's raining in Kyoto, so Ben and Yui spend the afternoon in an old tea house, talking about what they like.

On Sunday morning, Ben looks for a present for Yui in Kamakura's old shopping street, and a hat for himself next door.
On Monday morning on the beach, Riku wants to hear all about Ben's Sunday on the island of Enoshima, and asks one question Ben can't answer.
On Wednesday evening Yui calls from Kyoto with news about Saturday, but the line is bad.
It's Ben's birthday.
The morning after Ben's birthday, Riku asks what comes next.
