How to use хотеть

One sentence for each tense, the way people say it.

  1. Present

    Ты хочешь чай или кофе?

    Do you want tea or coffee?

  2. Past

    Я хотел позвонить, но было поздно.

    I wanted to call, but it was late.

  3. Future

    Ты будешь хотеть спать после обеда.

    You'll want to sleep after lunch.

  4. Conditional

    Я бы хотел столик у окна.

    I'd like a table by the window.

Good to know

  • Хотеть has a mixed table: хочу, хочешь, хочет, then хотим, хотите, хотят.
  • Я хочу есть is I'm hungry; я хочу пить, I'm thirsty.
