  2. Past

    Cogimos un taxi porque llovía muchísimo.

    We took a taxi because it was pouring.

  3. Imperfect

    Mi madre cogía naranjas del patio para el zumo.

    My mother picked oranges from the patio for the juice.

  4. Future

    ¿Cogerás el tren rápido o el normal?

    Will you take the fast train or the normal one?

  5. Conditional

    Yo cogería un paraguas, por si acaso.

    I'd take an umbrella, just in case.

  6. Present subjunctive

    Es mejor que cojas el metro a esta hora.

    It's better that you take the metro at this time of day.

  7. Past subjunctive

    Me dijo que cogiera las llaves del cajón.

    She told me to take the keys from the drawer.

  8. Imperative

    Coge otro trozo de tortilla, que está buenísima.

Good to know

  • In Spain "coger" is the everyday word for catching a bus or picking something up; in Mexico and Argentina it is vulgar, so say "tomar" or "agarrar" there.
