On Sunday night Laura takes the notebook down to the kitchen, and Matteo reads the first page out loud. Five words, written in 1958 by her grandmother's mother. Then, for the first time since she arrived, Laura calls her grandmother. Laura takes her grandmother's notebook down to the big kitchen, where Matteo is getting the school ready for Monday, and asks him what the first page says.
