PART 1 · LESSON 1 OF 30 · 33 MINUTES Free

Push!

Max Becker, an audio producer from Milwaukee, rings at an old street door in Berlin with three words of German, and a voice on the intercom tells him to push. Say hello and good evening politely, say who you are and who you're not, ask if someone is who you think, say welcome and come in, bless you, thank you and nice to meet you, ask how someone is, and wish someone a nice evening.

THE STORY

Max Becker has come to Berlin for a year, with two suitcases, a radio job that starts on Monday and three words of German from his grandmother. At six in the evening he rings at an old street door in Prenzlauer Berg, and a voice on the intercom tells him to push. Upstairs, Frau Weber welcomes him to her guesthouse, and in the hall Max takes a young man for the man of the house. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
