Sarah lands in Mexico City with a backpack, a month, and not a word of Spanish. From a small hostel in the capital to Oaxaca and the Pacific coast, each lesson is a scene from her trip: the people she meets, and what she has to say to them.

Sarah didn't get on the plane home. She goes back to Oaxaca, moves in with Valeria's family and volunteers at the neighbourhood clinic: two months of living in Spanish, from the rainy season to the Day of the Dead.

Before her new job in Oaxaca begins, Sarah spends two months in the Yucatan. A guesthouse in Merida, a road trip with a new friend from Monterrey, cenotes, pyramids and flamingos, and Christmas and New Year with people who became family.
