    A man who was running suddenly collapsed.

  3. Te-form

    じしん で、 ほんだな が たおれて いる。

    The bookshelf has fallen over in the earthquake.

  4. Potential

    かぞく の ため に、 たおれられない。

    For my family's sake, I can't afford to collapse.

  5. Want to

    たおれたくない から、 ちゃんと たべる。

    I don't want to keel over, so I eat properly.

Good to know

  • たおれる is also to collapse from illness or overwork; たおす is to knock something down.
  • You don't fall over on purpose, so the volitional sentence shows たおれる beside another verb.
