How to use обязаться

  1. Present

    Я обязуюсь вернуть деньги до конца месяца.

    I undertake to return the money by the end of the month.

  2. Past

    Хозяин обязался починить кран за неделю.

    The owner undertook to fix the tap within a week.

  3. Future

    Мы обяжемся не шуметь после одиннадцати.

    We'll undertake not to make noise after eleven.

  4. Conditional

    Я бы не обязался платить вперёд за полгода.

    I wouldn't commit to paying six months in advance.

Good to know

  • In a contract обязуется is the present: наймодатель обязуется, the lessor undertakes. Обяжусь is the future; обязываться is the imperfective.
