On the longest night of Holy Week, nobody in Triana goes to bed.

On Monday April 24th, Sarah's parents come back to Seville for the April Fair, and this time they bring her sister Emily, who learned her Spanish from videos made in Spain.

On Thursday April 27th, two days before the lights of the Fair go on, Sarah and Emily go to a dress shop in Triana for their first flamenco dresses, where the shop assistant has strong opinions about how tight a dress should be.

On Saturday April 29th, the night before the April Fair begins, Manolo gets the whole family into his cousin's tent for the fried-fish dinner, where there's sherry with lemonade and a dance in four parts that Encarna insists on teaching.

On the Wednesday of the April Fair, Emily meets Manolo's nephew Curro, a medical student who's supposed to be serving drinks, and Sarah discovers that her little sister, thanks to videos made in Madrid, talks exactly like a Spanish teenager.

On the Friday night of the April Fair, Encarna decides it's Sarah's father's turn to dance, and he has a lot of ways of saying no.

On the last day of the April Fair, the nurses honour Rosario in their tent, and Sarah, her last student, has to make a speech in Spanish in front of two hundred midwives.

On the last afternoon of the April Fair, the director of the school of midwives makes Sarah an offer she wasn't expecting, another semester in Seville, and Sarah answers like someone with a wedding to go to.

At midnight on the last night of the April Fair, the whole family watches the fireworks from the riverbank in Triana, and Sarah looks back on a year she couldn't have imagined.
