PART 1 · LESSON 6 OF 30 · 30 MINUTES
Under the Arches
On a rainy Thursday morning, Laura asks Signora Ada how she is, the polite way, for the first time, and they talk about the weather. Ada is proud of her city, where under the arches it doesn't rain. Ask how someone is, the polite way, talk about the weather, and ask where someone is going, the friendly way and the polite way.

THE STORY
It's Thursday morning, a quarter to nine, and it's raining in Bologna. At the school door, Laura makes small talk with Signora Ada for the first time, the polite way. At one o'clock, Laura has a plan for the afternoon, and Ada has an opinion about it. At nine, her grandmother calls from Boston. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
