How to use ことわる

One sentence for each tense, the way people say it.

    むり な しごと は ちゃんと ことわります。

    I say no properly to work that's impossible.

  2. Past

    きのう の のみかい は ことわった。

    I turned down yesterday's drinks party.

  3. Te-form

    さそい を ことわって、 わるかった なあ。

    I felt bad turning down the invitation.

  4. Potential

    せんぱい の たのみ は ことわれません。

    You can't say no to a senior's request.

  5. Want to

    ことわりたい けど、 いいかた が わからない。

    I want to say no, but I don't know how.

  6. Volitional

    こんど は はっきり ことわろう。

    Next time, let's say no clearly.

  7. Conditional

    いま ことわれば、 あと で らく だ よ。

    If you say no now, it'll be easier later.

  8. Commands and requests

    いやな とき は、 ことわりなさい。
