Lecciones 1 a 10On January first Ben visits a neighbourhood shrine with Yui's family, draws a fortune and talks about his hopes.
Back from the shrine on New Year's Day, Ben sits down to lunch with Yui's family.
Yui sees Ben off at Kyoto station and asks what he'll do about the Japanese exam.
It snows in Tokyo, which almost never happens.
It's Setsubun, the festival on the day before spring, and the whole school throws beans at a demon, played by Ben.
Ben and Yui fly to Sapporo, on the northern island of Hokkaido, for the snow festival.
The day after the snow festival, Ben and Yui go skiing in the mountains outside Sapporo.
The day before Valentine's Day, Ms. Aoki gives Ben chocolate, and he learns that in Japan, women give chocolate to men, and there are two very different kinds.
Ben sends a parcel of Japanese sweets, green tea and a little teapot home to Canada, for his parents' wedding anniversary.
The parcel has reached Toronto, and Ben's parents are coming to Japan in April.

Lecciones 11 a 18Haru is leaving to study in America, and Ben's class has a farewell party for her at an izakaya, a Japanese pub.
Ben meets his parents at Narita airport and takes them into Tokyo by taxi, interpreting between them and the driver, and hands them over to Kenta at the Hanaya.
The morning after they arrive, Ben's parents meet Mrs. Sato over breakfast at the Hanaya, and Ben interprets one of the most Japanese conversations there is, thanks for looking after a son.
On Saturday, Ben, Yui, Kenta and Ben's parents go to see the cherry blossoms in Ueno park, the most famous picnic of the Japanese year, and Yui meets Ben's parents in person for the first time.
On Sunday, Ben takes his parents to Kyoto on the bullet train, and the two families meet at Yui's parents' house.
The same Sunday evening, both families have dinner at an old inn with a hot spring, north of Kyoto, and Ben kneels the formal way until his legs go numb.
Saturday, April the eleventh, the last day of the visit.
Monday, April the thirteenth, the first day of the new school year at Ben's school.
