How to use なく

One sentence for each tense, the way people say it.

  1. Present and future

    あかちゃん は よる よく なきます。

    The baby cries a lot at night.

  2. Past

    えいが の さいご で ないた。

    I cried at the end of the film.

  3. Te-form

    むすめ が へや で ないて いる。

    My daughter is crying in her room.

  4. Potential

    かなしくても、 ひと の まえ で は なけない。

    Even when I'm sad, I can't cry in front of people.

  5. Want to

    なきたい とき は、 ないて いい よ。

    When you want to cry, it's fine to cry.

  6. Volitional

    きょう は おもいきり なこう。 あした から がんばろう。

    Today let's cry it all out. From tomorrow we try again.

  7. Conditional

    なけば、 すこし らく に なる よ。

    If you cry, you'll feel a little better.
