PART 1 · LESSON 4 OF 30 · 31 MINUTES
A Chinese Number
It's Friday morning, and Owen finds out that in China, without a Chinese phone number, almost nothing works. In a phone shop by the lake he gets a SIM card, hears his new number one digit at a time, and makes his first phone call in Chinese. Say what you'd like to get, ask for something and hand it over, ask someone to wait a moment, say the digits from zero to nine and a phone number the Chinese way, and answer the phone.

THE STORY
It's Friday, ten in the morning, and Owen has gone out to buy his tea. But in China almost everything happens on a phone, and for all of it you need a Chinese number. So the first thing he buys in Chinese isn't tea. In a phone shop on the road along the lake, a young clerk gets him a SIM card, and reads out his new number, one digit at a time. Then Owen makes his first phone call in Chinese, to Lan, who is at work. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
