    ふゆ は よく かぜ を ひきます。

    In winter I often catch colds.

  2. Past

    せんしゅう、 ひどい かぜ を ひきました。

    Last week I caught a bad cold.

  3. Te-form

    かぜ を ひいて いる ので、 マスク を して います。

    I have a cold, so I'm wearing a mask.

  4. Potential

    かぜ を ひいて、 しごと に いけません。

    I've caught a cold and can't go to work.

  5. Want to

    りょこう の まえ に かぜ を ひきたく ありません。

    I don't want to catch a cold before the trip.

  6. Volitional

    かぜ を ひかない よう に、 あたたかく しよう。

    Let's keep warm so we don't catch cold.

Good to know

  • ひく needs かぜ (a cold) before it: かぜ を ひきました, I've caught a cold. ひく alone is to pull, and also to play the piano or guitar.
  • Nobody decides to catch a cold, so the potential and volitional sentences show ひく beside another verb.
