How to use しかる

  1. Present and future

    ちち は めったに こども を しかりません。

    My father rarely scolds the children.

  2. Past

    きのう、 おそく かえった むすめ を しかった。

    Yesterday I scolded my daughter for coming home late.

  3. Te-form

    そんな に つよく しかって、 かわいそう だ よ。

    Scolding him that hard, the poor thing.

  4. Potential

    あの かお を みる と、 しかれません。

    When I see that face, I can't scold him.

  5. Want to

    ほんとう は しかりたくない けど、 しかた が ない。

    I don't really want to scold him, but there's no choice.

  6. Volitional

    いちど だけ ちゃんと しかろう と おもう。

    I think I'll scold him properly, just once.

  7. Conditional

    あまり しかったら、 こども は なにも いわなく なる。

    If you scold too much, children stop saying anything.
