How to use たつ

One sentence for each tense, the way people say it.

  1. Present and future

    バス で は いつも たちます。

    On the bus I always stand.

  2. Past

    きょう は しごと で ごじかん も たちました。

    Today I stood for five whole hours at work.

  3. Te-form

    いりぐち に たって、 まって います。

    I'm standing at the entrance, waiting.

  4. Potential

    こし が いたくて、 たてません。

    My back hurts, I can't stand up.

  5. Want to

    いつか あの ぶたい に たちたい です。

    One day I want to stand on that stage.

  6. Volitional

    いちばん まえ に たとう。 よく みえる よ。

    Let's stand right at the front. We'll see well.

  7. Conditional

    たてば、 みんな の かお が みえます。

    If you stand, you can see everyone's faces.

  8. Commands and requests

    なまえ を よばれたら、 たちなさい。

    When your name is called, stand up.
