How to use писать

One sentence for each tense, the way people say it.

  1. Present

    Я пишу тебе из поезда, связь плохая.

    I'm writing to you from the train, the signal's bad.

  2. Past

    Раньше я писал стихи каждый вечер.

    I used to write poems every evening.

  3. Future

    Мы будем писать вокал в пятницу.

    We'll record the vocals on Friday.

  4. Conditional

    Я бы писал чаще, если бы ты отвечала.

    I'd write more often if you replied.

  5. Imperative

    Пиши мне каждый день, как доедешь.

    Write to me every day once you get there.

Good to know

  • Писать is writing as it goes: я пишу письмо; написать is to finish it. In a studio, писать is to record. Stress the ending: писа́ть.
