How to use かく

One sentence for each tense, the way people say it.

  1. Present and future

    まいばん にっき を かきます。

    I write a diary every evening.

  2. Past

    せんせい に てがみ を かいた。

    I wrote a letter to my teacher.

  3. Te-form

    ここ に なまえ を かいて ください。

    Please write your name here.

  4. Potential

    ひらがな は ぜんぶ かけます。

    I can write all the hiragana.

  5. Want to

    いつか にほんご で ほん を かきたい です。

    One day I want to write a book in Japanese.

  6. Volitional

    みんな で ねんがじょう を かこう。

    Let's all write New Year's cards.

  7. Conditional

    かんじ で かけば、 もっと みじかく なります。

    If you write it in kanji, it gets shorter.

  8. Commands and requests

    もっと おおきく じ を かきなさい。

    Write the letters bigger.
