How to use かえる

  1. Present and future

    きょう は はやく かえります。

    I'm going home early today.

  2. Past

    ゆうべ は じゅうにじ すぎ に かえった。

    Last night I got home after midnight.

  3. Te-form

    つかれた でしょう。 もう かえって やすんで。

    You must be tired. Go home and rest.

  4. Potential

    しごと が おわらなくて、 まだ かえれません。

    I can't finish my work, so I can't go home yet.

  5. Want to

    おしょうがつ は カナダ に かえりたい、 と ベン が いった。

    Ben said he wants to go home to Canada for New Year.

  6. Volitional

    さむく なって きた。 そろそろ かえろう。

    It's getting cold. Let's head home.

  7. Conditional

    はやく かえれば、 ばんごはん に まにあう よ。

  • かえる, to go home, is godan: かえります, かえって. かえる, to change, is ichidan: かえます, かえて.
  • かえる is going back to where you belong, home or your own country; もどる is going back to where you were a moment ago.
