PART 3 · LESSON 24 OF 30 · 40 MINUTES
One Last Night
Monday evening, the night before the wedding. The friends take Ben out in Kyoto for his last night as a single man, and promise Yui to have him home by midnight. Learn the most casual Japanese of the level, the way friends talk late at night. Shortened forms (shitoku, kaennakya, itten no), yabai for good and bad, the rough zo and nee, a toast among friends, and a phone call from Yui at half past eleven.

THE STORY
Tomorrow is a holiday, so the friends have come down from Tokyo. Daichi has brought half the futsal team, Mike has brought a card the whole school signed, and Kenta has booked a corner of an izakaya. Sota, nineteen, is on juice and not happy about it. At half past eleven Yui phones, and Ben swears he's only had one. Everyone has promised her he'll be home by midnight. Nobody is wearing a watch. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
