THE STORY
Two days after the wedding, Ben and Yui land in Okinawa, the islands in the far south of Japan, where the sea is turquoise and the air is soft even in November. Their inn is a small white house near the beach, with two stone lion-dogs on the roof. Ben has a list of things to do. Yui has a list of things not to do. On the way to the beach, news from home. On the sand, Ben opens the card from school at last, and forgets the sunscreen. That evening, bitter melon. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
