  1. Present and future

    ゆい の でんわばんごう を しりません か。

    Do you happen to know Yui's phone number?

  2. Past

    ニュース で その じこ を しりました。

    I learned of the accident from the news.

  3. Te-form

    さとう さん を しって います か。

    Do you know Mrs. Sato?

  4. Potential

    あした は ゆき かもしれません。

    It might snow tomorrow.

  5. Want to

    にほん の れきし を もっと しりたい です。

    I want to know more about Japanese history.

  6. Volitional

    まず あいて を しろう と しました。

    First I tried to get to know the other person.

  7. Conditional

    ほんとう の こと を しったら、 おこる でしょう。

    If she found out the truth, she'd be angry.

  8. Commands and requests

    しらない ひと に ついて いかないで ください。

    Don't go off with people you don't know.

Good to know

  • "I know" is しって います, with the て-form; "I don't know" is しりません.
  • かもしれません, "maybe", is the potential of しる: あめ かもしれません.
  • Nobody orders someone to know, so the imperative sentence shows しらない beside another verb.
