PART 2 · LESSON 16 OF 30 · 31 MINUTES
Friends Are Friends
It's Thursday morning, and Master Chen teaches Owen to taste tea the way a buyer does, with the jin Owen bought in the old street beside his own. In the afternoon, an old friend of the family comes up from Shanghai for his spring tea, and at last somebody names this year's price. Say how to taste tea, talk about its colour, its smell and its leaves, say this one smells better than that one, greet a teacher, say how long something has gone on, give this year's price and last year's, say there's been a frost, and say friends are friends, and money is money.

THE STORY
It's Thursday morning in the tea room, and Master Chen has put two glasses side by side, his own tea and the tea Owen bought in the old street. In the afternoon, an old man comes up from Shanghai to buy his spring tea, as he has every year for thirty years. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
