PARTE 2 · AULA 13 DE 30 · 40 MINUTOS
Obon
In the middle of August, Ben and Yui go to Kyoto for Obon, when families welcome back the spirits of their ancestors. Learn to say "without doing" with zu ni, a more careful form than naide. Visit a family grave, light incense, introduce yourself to someone's late grandfather, meet the cucumber horse and the aubergine cow on the family altar, and watch the great bonfire on the mountain.

A HISTÓRIA
Saturday, the fourteenth of August. Half of Japan is going home for Obon, and Ben and Yui take a packed bullet train to Kyoto. Early on Sunday morning, the Yamamotos visit the family grave, and Yui has something to tell her grandfather, who died when she was in high school. Back at the house, there's a cucumber with legs on the family altar. On Monday night, a giant character burns on the mountain, to send the spirits home again. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
