PARTE 2 · LECCIÓN 16 DE 30 · 40 MINUTOS

Both Things

On Spain's National Day, Manolo's greeting starts a difficult conversation with Julian and Professor Ortega. Disagree respectfully, distinguish an encounter from a conquest, and talk about a shared language without forgetting the other languages people speak. Sarah joins after work, and history leads back to the wedding.

LA HISTORIA

Thursday, October 12, 2028, around one in the afternoon. The Archive's reading room is closed for the national holiday, so Julian and Professor Ortega have worked from copies at Ortega's home. At Manolo's bar the television shows parade footage from Madrid. A greeting leads to a conversation about history. After her shift ends at three, Sarah joins them over coffee and asks what they have settled.
