PART 1 · LESSON 8 OF 30 · 40 MINUTES
I've Been Studying in Secret
The day after Christmas, Daniel's sister Emily has a surprise for Bia. She has been learning Portuguese, in secret, since the wedding, and she understood every word at Christmas dinner, even the secret of Bia's farofa. Say what you've been doing lately, "I've been studying", say what has been changing little by little, "it's been getting better", and become sisters-in-law in Portuguese.

THE STORY
Tuesday, the day after Christmas, mid-morning. Daniel and Tom have gone out to change a present, and Susan is at her Portuguese lesson. In the kitchen, Bia is washing up, and Emily, Daniel's sister, is drying. She has hardly said a word all Christmas. She puts down the tea towel, and takes a breath. An hour later, Daniel comes home. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
