The Fisherman by the Lake

A fisherman grills his morning's catch by Lake Qarun: while you eat I'll tell you, while we were coming we saw it, saltier than the sea, when I was small the water was up to here, and the fish caught while you were still asleep.

THE STORY

A fisherman's grill on the shore of Lake Qarun in the Fayoum, the Feast holiday. The fisherman, an older man, speaks plainly to Leo and Karim; Leo answers politely.

وَأَنَا صُغَيَّر.wa-'A-na su-GHAY-yarwhen I was small: and I, then small
وَأَنَا صُغَيَّر, المَيَّة كَانِت لِحَدّ هِنَا.wa-'A-na su-GHAY-yar, il-MAY-ya KAA-nit li-7ADD HI-na.When I was small, the water was up to here.
