PARTIE 1 · LEÇON 8 SUR 30 · 40 MINUTES
The Kimono Fitting
Ben and Yui take the bullet train to Kyoto, where Yui's mother has booked a kimono fitting. Learn the two kinds of so da. After a stem, it means looks like, or about to (omoso, nakiso, furiso). After a plain form, it means I hear, they say (omoi so da). Talk about the white wedding kimono, the men's crested kimono, a tight fit, and lunch with your future mother-in-law.

L’HISTOIRE
Saturday, the twenty-sixth of June, eight days before the N3 exam. Ben has put his books away for the weekend, more or less, and he and Yui take the bullet train to Kyoto. Yui's mother has booked a fitting at an old kimono shop near the shrine. The white wedding kimono is magnificent, and very heavy. Ben's black crested kimono and pleated trousers are less magnificent, and very tight. Then Yui sees herself in the mirror, and goes quiet. At lunch, Yui's mother has news about Sota, and plans for Ben's mother. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
