You Never Stopped Being Brave

Saturday the twenty-ninth of July. Seu Antonio drives up from Belo Horizonte on his own for the weekend, the chapel bell rings to welcome him, and after lunch he and Bia walk to the old mango tree. THE STORY

Saturday the twenty-ninth of July. At noon, Seu Antonio's car comes up the red dirt road from Belo Horizonte, and the chapel bell rings to welcome him. After lunch he says, without looking at anyone, that he'd like a walk, and Bia goes with him. They stop under an old mango tree at the edge of the pasture, the one Bia used to climb when she was seven. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
