The Pink Flamingos
On Sunday morning at Rio Lagartos, Sarah and Camila find a boatman on the jetty, with nothing booked, and go out on the lagoon to see hundreds of pink flamingos, and a crocodile. That afternoon, Sarah calls Elena in Oaxaca, as she promised. Say something is very beautiful or very expensive with -isimo, say so many, ask why, ask if you can take a photo, warn someone, and tell family far away that you miss them.

It's Sunday, November thirtieth. Rio Lagartos is a small fishing village at the very top of the Yucatan, where thousands of pink flamingos come to feed in the shallow lagoons. Sarah and Camila haven't booked anything. At seven in the morning, they walk down to the jetty, where a boatman is sitting in his boat. That afternoon, Sarah calls Elena in Oaxaca, as she promised.
