It Smells of Orange Blossom

Monday, April 3rd. On Encarna's first walk since the hospital, down Pureza Street, past Saint Anne's, where she married in 1970, and on to a bench by the river, the whole of Triana smells of orange blossom and of the week that's coming. A HISTÓRIA

It's Monday, April 3rd, eight in the evening. Encarna is allowed out for her first walk since the hospital, a short one, slowly, on Julian's arm. Every street in Triana has orange trees, and every orange tree is in flower. Somewhere nearby, a band is playing. Halfway down Pureza Street they stop outside Saint Anne's, where Encarna got married, and by the river she needs a bench. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
