PART 3 · LESSON 23 OF 30 · 32 MINUTES
What Would You Give Her?
Saturday at the Croix-Rousse market, twelve days before the train to Marseille. Emma wants a present for each of Hugo's family, people she has never met, and Hugo is no help at all. A silk scarf, a Lyon sausage, a football shirt his father would never forgive, and a box of papillotes, Lyon's Christmas chocolates with a joke in every wrapper. Ask what someone would give, say she'd love that, and say what would happen with the would form.

THE STORY
It's Saturday the eleventh of December, cold and sunny. Emma's Saturday classes are over, and at half past twelve she and Hugo walk through the Croix-Rousse market, on the boulevard at the top of the hill. In twelve days they take the train to Marseille, and Emma has a list in her pocket, Hugo's mother, his father, his brother Nico, Nico's wife and their two little girls. Then a sports shop window, and a chocolate shop. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
