PART 2 · LESSON 14 OF 30 · 30 MINUTES
Taking a Message
Monday lunchtime at Sakura English. Miss Aoki is at lunch, Mister Kimura is out, and the phone rings. It's Tsubame Travel, for Mister Kimura, and Ben must speak of his own boss the way their receptionist spoke of hers, by his name alone and with humble words. He nearly gets it wrong. Learn the polite Japanese of the office phone (de gozaimasu, itsumo osewa ni natte orimasu, tadaima gaishutsu shite orimasu, moushitsutaemasu, orikaeshi odenwa itashimasu).

THE STORY
Monday, February the seventh, twenty twenty-eight, a quarter past twelve. At Sakura English, Miss Aoki is at lunch and Mister Kimura is out, so Ben answers the phone. It's the receptionist at Tsubame Travel, with a message for Mister Kimura, and Ben nearly calls his own boss Mister Kimura. At three, Mister Kimura phones Tsubame Travel back, and Ben hears his own name said the same way. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
