The Closest Thing to a Family
Tuesday, March 28th. Encarna faints among the oranges at the market in Triana and is kept in hospital, and Sarah and Julian are the ones the doctor comes out to talk to. Say we're the closest thing to a family, is it serious?, they're keeping her in, how long will she be here?, I'll stay tonight and look who's talking, and get through three days in a Spanish hospital from the other side of the bed, with a patient who wants salt, croquettes and her own home.

THE STORY
It's Tuesday, March 28th, six in the evening, in the cardiology corridor of the hospital where Sarah works. At noon, Encarna fainted at the market in Triana, among the oranges, and the fruit seller called an ambulance. Sarah ran down from the maternity ward, still in her uniform, and Julian came from the Archive by taxi. Now a young doctor comes out of Encarna's room with a folder. At eight, the dinner tray arrives, and someone has to stay the night. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
