The Guelaguetza

On the second and last Monday of the Guelaguetza, Sarah, her parents and Julian climb the hill to the open-air auditorium to watch the dances of the eight regions of Oaxaca. Say "the more... the more", describe dances and costumes, explain what a word means, catch a flying pineapple, and give a gift back.

THE STORY

It's Monday, the twenty-seventh of July, the second and last Monday of the Guelaguetza, and the doctor has given Sarah the day off. The festival is held in an open-air auditorium on the Fortin hill, above Oaxaca. Dancers from the eight regions of the state perform their dances, then throw gifts to the crowd. Julian has found four tickets. The show starts at ten, it's already ten past, and the steps up the hill are steep. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
