PARTIE 3 · LEÇON 29 SUR 30 · 40 MINUTES
The Turkey Dance
At the party in a field in Teotitlan, Sarah's father stands up to make a speech - in Spanish - the toasts go round in both kinds of Spanish, and then Julian's mother announces the dance everyone from Seville has been dreading. Give a speech and a toast - I'd like to say a few words, she didn't listen to me, thank goodness, I propose a toast, health, money and love, bottoms up - and dance with a turkey in your arms.

L’HISTOIRE
It's Monday, December 18th, ten at night, in a field behind Julian's parents' house. There are long tables under strings of lights, four hundred and ninety guests, a band, a dance floor of packed earth, and the smell of black mole. The rug Julian's father wove for them hangs behind the bride and groom. Julian taps his glass with a fork. Next to him, Sarah's father has a piece of paper in his hand, and he's very pale. Later the toasts go round, the women of the village dance with turkeys in their arms, Manolo gets his lesson from Julian's grandmother, and at midnight Pablo takes out his guitar. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
