PARTIE 2 · LEÇON 11 SUR 30 · 40 MINUTES
The East Wind
In August, Sarah, Julian and Encarna spend a week in Conil with Rosario, newly retired, and her sister Pepa. The east wind empties the beach, lunch is fried sea anemones at the beach bar, and the next morning Encarna goes into the sea for the first time in twenty years. Talk about habits - I usually, I used to, we used to rent - and about a Spanish beach in August - the beach bar, the umbrella, the sun cream, and the wind that eats your legs.

L’HISTOIRE
It's Thursday, August 10th, ten in the morning, on the beach at Conil, a white town on the Atlantic, south of Cadiz. Rosario has been retired for six weeks and has been up since five. Pepa has planted a big striped umbrella in the sand. Encarna is in a folding chair, in a hat the size of a wheel. The sea is wild, the sand is flying, and the beach is almost empty. At two o'clock they have lunch at the beach bar, and the next morning the wind drops and Sarah asks Encarna to come into the water. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
