That Remains to Be Seen

Back on the delivery ward after the holidays, Rosario sits Sarah down with news. She's retiring in June, after thirty-two years, and she has an idea about who should take her place. Then a birth in room six that Sarah leads herself, a secret the whole hospital already knows, and an evening in Triana with too many questions. Say I'm going to retire, who's going to replace you?, about to, my head is spinning, and that remains to be seen.

L’HISTOIRE

It's Saturday, January 8th, seven in the morning, Sarah's first shift after the holidays. The delivery ward smells of coffee and disinfectant. Rosario is at the midwives' desk with two cups, and one of them is for Sarah, which is strange, because Rosario never makes coffee for anyone. Then there's a birth in room six, and at four, Sarah gets home to Julian with the news. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
