Giving It Everything

It's the Monday of Holy Week. One of the men who carry the Hope of Triana has hurt his back, and Pablo has talked Julian into taking his place. At eleven at night, in a street in Triana, the extra rehearsal begins - under a wooden frame, in the dark, with a sack on his head. THE STORY

It's Monday, March 26th, 2029, the Monday of Holy Week, eleven at night, in a narrow street in Triana. On Saturday one of the bearers of the Hope of Triana hurt his back, and the foreman needs a man of the same height, fast. Pablo, who has carried her for ten years, has brought Julian. So tonight there's one more rehearsal - thirty men under a wooden frame the size of the float, loaded with sacks of sand. At midnight there's a break for water, and at one in the morning Julian gets home to Sarah. Encarna doesn't know a thing. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
