PART 3 · LESSON 23 OF 30 · 40 MINUTES
The Sooner the Better
Eleven days after Mother's Day, the first scan, at twelve weeks. Hear the heartbeat, see a baby the size of a lemon, take the doctor's advice home, and book the blood tests. That evening, Luana, nearly eight months pregnant, has advice of her own. Say "the sooner the better" and "as soon as possible", and talk about tests, rest and what to avoid.

THE STORY
Thursday the twenty-fourth of May, at ten in the morning, at a doctor's office in Botafogo. In a small dark room at the back, Bia is lying on the bed, and Daniel is holding her hand, a bit too tightly. Doctor Helena, who has seen three thousand babies come into the world, turns on the screen. That evening, Luana comes round, nearly eight months pregnant, with a lot of advice. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
