New Home, New Life

The housewarming party, two weeks after the move. Rafael brings a plant, Dona Marta brings a cake, Carla brings Bruno at last, and Luana, just back from Salvador, has news. THE STORY

Saturday the fourteenth of April, two weeks after the move, on the eighth floor in Botafogo. The kitchen is finished, white, as ordered. The boxes have gone, mostly. There are fairy lights in the living-room window, cheese bread in the oven, and Sugarloaf Mountain turning pink outside. Dona Marta came up first, with a cake. Tonight Carla brings the man she has been hiding since Christmas, and Luana, just back from three months in Salvador, has news of her own. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
