A minute before midnight, he asks. Say what if we lived together, say I've wanted to for a long time, say is that what you were talking about on the rock, wish someone a happy New Year, and find out what Gerard's three years were for.

THE STORY
Friday the thirty-first of December 2027, the last night of the year and the last night in Marseille. At eleven, at the door of the flat, Martine has a scarf and Gerard has a word for his son. At half past eleven, Hugo and Emma stand on the quay of the Old Port, where a stack of kayaks stood two and a half years ago and a young man called out to a girl with a bag of strawberries. The whole city is out, the water is full of lights, and Hugo has a question. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
