Osaka
Friday the twenty-fifth of August, ten in the morning, Tsubame Travel's head office near Osaka station. Mister Okada, the head of the international department, meets Ben in the lobby at the top of his voice, and Missus Hayashi does not wait for the tea. From October, a new team for customers from abroad, and she wants Ben to lead it. Ben asks for time to think, says he'll decide with his wife, and eats octopus balls in Dotonbori with his boss-to-be. Learn to ask a favour the way a president does (jitsu wa, onegai ga aru n desu), to give an Osaka sentence back in Tokyo Japanese (hataraite hoshii n desu ka), and to ask for time in the politest way there is (kangaesasete itadakemasen ka).

THE STORY
Friday, the twenty-fifth of August, twenty twenty-eight. Ben took the six o'clock bullet train from Tokyo, alone, in his suit, and was in Osaka an hour early. Ten to ten, the lobby of Tsubame Travel's head office, near Osaka station. A big man of about fifty comes out of the lift already talking, takes Ben up to the ninth floor, and Missus Hayashi is at the door of her office. On the table, a sheet of paper, face down. At noon there are octopus balls by a canal, and at three a phone call from a platform. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
